ZIPLOC
People throw away good food everyday due to their misunderstanding of "sell by dates". Ziploc will create an experience that will feed tons of college students, educate them on food waste and transform them into an army of volunteers.
ZIPLOC ReFRESH FOOD TRUCKS
Giving Food New Life
Imagine looking out your dorm window and seeing Food Trucks pulling into the parking lot. Then imagine "RE-LIFED"" food being cooked by local chefs during Restaurant Week and being told that the food was free with one only one catch....that you have to pay it forward.
THE ZIPLOC ReFRESH APP
Refresh will be launched on University Campuses across Illinois and will be kicked off during Restaurant Week. Students can take advantage of free meals year around in exchange for volunteerism at local food pantries.
Giving Back
The ReFresh App will help students locate participating food pantries in the area where they can "pay" for their meals with volunteer time.
Packaging
Packaging will educate students on food waste and will also provide USDA information about how long food lasts past "sell by" dates when stored or frozen properly.
SCAN DATE
The ReFresh App also comes with a scanner feature that can be used in grocery stores by users to capture the “sell by” date on food items with information on how long food will remain fresh when frozen or stored after that date.
